|The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Screenplay from The Movie Script LibraryTM
|back to the Printed Items page back to the Cellar|
Produced in 1995 at the time of the 20th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, this is billed as the Original Movie Script of the film. I think what they actually mean is it is the script as used in the final print of the movie in the United States. Our file copy of the original screenplay/script contains 'Once In A While' the song cut (after some footage was shot) as it was felt it slowed the pace of the movie. There is also none of Brad and Janet's dialogue for the verse of 'SuperHeroes' that they sing on the extended UK prints of the movie.
There is also an introduction by Howard Karren (listed as senior features editor for Premiere Magazine) in which he describes Richard O'Brien as a New Zealander, a common misconception due to the fact that Richard O'Brien grew up in New Zealand, although he was born in Chelmsford, England. Quite a bad error for a publication of this sort.
For your money you get 102 pages of script (single sided), filmographies of Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien and eight pages of the original lobby cards for the movie. Four pages in colour, four in black and white.
The book is 8.5" x 10.5" and nicely bound with a fake leather effect embossed into the main cover. There is a cut out in the cover to let the glossy second page show through, complete with lips and logo.
Overall quite useful for lip-syncing the film and a good research tool, let down by the odd factual mistake in the introduction and the lack of alternate versions of the movie.
