Richard has
been writing this sequel for what seems like an eternity. Various
"Rocky Horror" sequels (film and stage) have been mooted over the
years. There was "Rocky Horror Shows His Heels" (nice title), which
kind of morphed into "Shock Treatment" in 1981 when Jim Sharman made it
clear he didn't want to make a direct "monster rises from the grave"
type follow-up to RHPS. Then there was "Revenge of the Old Queen"
(songs were written, and demos recorded apparently), which also never
happened. When we saw Richard performing a charity "audience with..."
kind of night at the Fab Cafe in Manchester in 2003, he was asked about
the stage show sequel, and said he was having a break from finishing it
until his divorce was settled. Maybe he's getting ready to complete the
script, and "Rocky Horror - The Second Coming" (also a fabulous title)
is finally on its way. It's a pity really because, as a devoted "Rocky
Horror" fan (for twenty years), a very big part of me really does NOT
want to see a sequel. I would love the original to remain a perfect
one-off classic piece of theatre that will continue to be revived
forever.

I've been
around rocky circles since '98, really, and though I obviously don't go
as far back as rob and a lot of others, it seems to me that Mr O'Brien
has been "just about finished" the sequel forever. I have sometimes
wondered whether it's just his little joke with the fans ("Yeah, I'm
writing a sequel")... Course it'll never be the same as rocky itself,
but I've got no real problem with them making one. Just as the
*original* Star Wars films (and I mean the proper versions, none of
this Greedo shooting first crap) can't be made bad by those vile
prequels, Rocky can't be badly affected by some crappy sequel. It might
even reignite some interest in the original, which goodness knows would
be a good thing, there can never be too many Rocky fans in the world.
ultimately, it'll never be the same as the original, of course, but
then if it's not much cop, it'll just disappear. ST (which i personally
happen to love - was way ahead of its time with the whole reality TV
thing) didn't match up to a lot of folks' expectations, and it just
kinda slid quietly from the view of all but the RH hardcore. And you
never know.... if RO'B really has been working on a serious sequel
project for all these years, there's just a chance that it might be
something great...

Hi Edward.
Yes, I love "Shock Treatment" too; the songs are great, it was WAY
ahead of its time, very very deep (the Big brother obsessives clearly
learned nothing from the messages of either "Shock Treatment" or "The
Truman Show"), and Little Nell looks incredible in that outfit. However
my initial interest in "Rocky Horror" was sparked by my childhood love
of B-movies, 1950s rock'n'roll and cheesy sci-fi, so "Rocky" itself
will always be in a class of its own for me.It's not a movie sequel I
have a problem with (as we will always have RHPS at our disposal on vid
or DVD); it's the prospect of a stage follow-up I find worrying. If
Richard wants to put out a stage show sequel, then it's probably likely
to appear INSTEAD of a new production of "Rocky", rather than as well
as. Then who knows how long we'll have to wait for a new tour or
production of "The Rocky Horror Show" itself? It's over a year now
since the official site was updated and fourteen months since the last
tour ended. Quite frankly I'VE WAITED LONG ENOUGH. |

Rob, yeah, i see what you mean about a stage sequel... It'd be
interesting if they did one and toured it around the same venues as -
for want of a better term - Rocky 1, with say a month's delay... Though
TBH, given that the stage show is a big commerical enterprise now, I
can't see them dropping Rocky in favour of a sequel show when there's
more marketing potential for a rerun of the original, with less
investment (not such a cynical stance when you hear how few theatre
productions actually turn a profit)... To run a sequel, you'd probably
get the Rocky faithful, but noone new, whereas we all will keep going
back to see the original, and they'll attract new folks too. Maybe if
there is one they'll hive off a sequel to a subsidiary company and let
it run as an experiemntal fringe thing to see if it has legs first. Oh,
now, though... thinking about Shocky, in these days of Jerry Springer
the Opera, wouldn't that be an interesting stage show....

Hi I have heard about two songs from Rocky 2 one is "The Moon Drenched
Shores Of Transylvania" and the other one which is called "Never Let
Your Daughter Date An Alien" was dicussed on the 1992 UK Transylvanian
Convention by Zalie Burrow and Kate O'Sullivan I have not heard of any
other song titles though. Personally I would love to see a sequel made,
maybe it won't be a hit but I think if they tour Rocky 1 first and then
tour Rocky 2 there will be a lot more chance of it being a success.
Because if they tour Rocky 1 and promote the sequel with it to in
advertising etc there is a chance it could be a hit. Obviously it won't
be a bigger hit than the original Rocky but I think it would be great
for the fans etc.. What I think is a much better idea is if they make a
remake of Rocky with the stars from the original. Maybe that is just
one of my silly dreams though lol.

As far as I'm aware, the songs "Shores of Transylvania" and "Never Let
Your Daughter Date an Alien", as mentioned by Zalie and Kate at
Transylvania '92, were written (and demos were recorded) for the much
discussed, but never produced, movie sequel Revenge of the Old Queen in
the 90s. However, I believe that the sequel that Richard has been
writing for the last few years is a completely different Rocky Horror
stage show sequel, so I don't know if those two songs (or indeed any of
the songs for Old Queen) would still be part of it. As I've said
before, I'd much prefer to see an imaginative well produced revival of
The Rocky Horror Show itself rather than trying to recapture the magic
of a one-off classic with any kind of sequel... even with Richard's
genius behind it.

Yeah I'm in
Agreement with Rob on this one, as much as a sequel would be fun, I
think it would be almost destined to fail next to the original. A
supposed leaked screenplay of "Revenge of the Old Queen" has been on
the net for years and I have to admit I didn't even finish reading it.
(Draw your own conclusions there...) I would prefer to see a brand new
"number one tour" production of Rocky (Independant from Rocky London
and the Direction of Chris Malcom.) Or better still, those lucky enough
to be at Translyvania 99, would have seen me asking Richard to Sing
some songs from "The Stripper" his 1982? musical co-written with
Richard Hartley. He obliged, and the cheers from the audience showed
how well this was recived. Think about it a small budget, no names in
the cast just talent, a new book for the show; this
spoof-dective-murder-mystery-who-dunnit would be perfect for the
Edinburgh Fringe, before a run at the Venue in Londons West end. Lets
start a petition now! |

KevMc, you've got a good point about them reviving "The Stripper", that
would be really interesting.I would love to see a sequel to Rocky. I
don't think it will work. Richard has got so much to live up to. It
doesn't matter what he does some fans will hate and be really bitchy
about it. I don't know if he could re-catcher the innocence again (I
think RO'B said something like that in an interview).Something
completely new that sounds like a better idea to me.
