First off, I should say this is not a licenced product, but in this case I'll overlook that as it is so much fun!
I found this handmade lasercut cuckoo clock which features an image of Oakley Court from a UK seller and spent £64.99 plus £5 postage on one. Worth the cost of the packaging alone as it arrived it a very oversized box and tons of bubblewrap. Each has a serial number and I got #14-26 (14 out of 26 perhaps?) The clock itself is lasercut and laser engraved from fairly thin wood but as it is mounted to the wall it should (hopefully) survive. I like the sepia effect the laser engraving gives as it makes it look very gothic. The window sills and details are hand painted with a matt white paint to make the details stand out, nice touch and probably why it costs what it does. The actual clock face and mechanism looks like a mass produced Chinese product and the 'Cuckoo' mechanism the same, but again the gothic look to the clock face is in keeping. Everything is battery powered using three AA batteries (supplied), which are quoted as lasting at least a year. The clock measures approx 270mm wide x 335mm high x 108mm deep and weighs around 1kg with the batteries included. There is a nice metal (brass I think) mounting plate on the back and it sits on a single screw in the wall. I'll add some detailed photos of the cuckoo mechanism this weekend when I get more time to set up a decent background and lighting, the image above is a snapshot from my phone. What I will say is the 'cuckoo' itself is really funny and well thought out for the theme. On the hour the small door on the clock (looks like a slightly oversized window on the tower, just level with the house parapets) opens to reveal a 3D printed Riff Raff figure that does a rather fun version of the 'Cuckoo' effect using his famous greeting to Brad and Janet. I would have prefered it more if the door had swung down and the figure came out like a traditional cuckoo clock, but it just rotates clockwise at the bottom right corner to reveal the 3D figure. Not the end of the world, but could have been just that little bit better. I guess they have done it to save some costs. I might leave that as feedback on Ebay for the seller. I've added a sound sample below for the cuckoo/hello effect. |
