Mick Rock - Rocky Horror A-Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Cult Classic

Released on the 30th September, 2025 from legendary photographer Mick Rock this is an amazing collection of images taken on the set of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you have a copy of Mick's previous Rocky Horror book you will recognise many of the images, but there are plenty of unseen ones in there to make this a must have purchase for Rocky fans.

The book isn't just images though, there are many interviews and quotes from both the stars of the movie and celebrity fans. There are loads of interesting titbits of information in these interviews and it's nice to hear the different perspectives of the show and film that they describe.

Included is a little timeline for the show/movie, but they seem to have the movie premiere date as the USA one only (September 26th, 1975) when in fact the world premiere was in the UK on the 14th August that year.

Includes a foreword by Richard O'Brien

The hardback version main cover and spine have some red metallic detailing on and the book itself is on nice quality matt paper.

A must for every fan of the movie.

Comparison between UK and USA versions.

So, we got out (UK) copy a few weeks before release and then when the book came out people in the UK and USA were saying they looked different. We've now got a USA version to so here is a comparison between the two versions.

The main difference is the USA version comes in a slip cover, whereas the UK one doesn't. The only change in the content is the USA has a different publishing credits page. If you spot any other differences let us know.

USA copy with slipcase.

An exploded view of the slipcase. The lips on the front cover are embossed in a silver glitter. I'm a little concerned that will get damaged if the book is pushed in/pulled out of a bookshelf next to other books, so take care of your copy. We've put something alongside it as a spacer in our bookcase to protect it.

On the actual book cover the lips are also different. The UK ones (top in image) are red foil over printed, the USA ones are a red glitter overprint.

USA UK Comparision books
With the USA version book in it's slipcase the books look quite similar on the spines. The UK version has 'Rocky Horror' in red metallic overprint and the USA version doesn't. The publisher tag is also different.

USA UK Comparision books
Out of the slip cover you can see the difference in the spines of the actual books. The USA spine version is again a plain print while the UK version has the metallic overprint on 'Rocky Horror'.

USA UK Comparision books
Comparing the actual pages and binding of the books shows that the UK version is printed on thicker paper. As a photographer I much prefer the UK version as there is a also a fair bit less shine coming off each page. I would say the UK version is better quality for the look of the images, whereas the USA version is a nicer overall package with the slipcase and stickers.

Rear covers of the book are slightly different too. The UK version (right of image) has the text that the USA version uses on the slipcase and the UK version is gloss overprinted on the photos, the USA version is plain matt.

Stickers
One thing you do get with the USA version compared to the UK release is a set of 12 self adhesive stickers. The circular images are around 37mm wide, but the actual pull out sticker is cut at 31mm, so you lose a fair bit of the image if you use the stickers.

So, which version is better?

Short answer neither, and both. The USA version comes with more goodies in presentation, you get a slip cover and a set of stickers. The UK version is on thicker, better paper and I much prefer the content look in the UK book.

Buy both versions!
