DVD Box Set

Released on Halloween in the 30th anniversary year (2005) of the Rocky Horror Picture Show is this combined DVD and CD box set. We don't think this disc set is intended to be a full blown anniversary edition as this is just one of a series of movies Fox have released with both the movie and the soundtrack album included. Other titles in the series include 24 Hour Party People, All That Jazz, The Beach, The Commitments, Fight Club, The King & I, Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet and South Pacific. It's a shame that Fox didn't manage to get a nice new official release for the 30th this year with both Mick Rock's book and the Trivia Game being released. There was also no big convention in the USA to mark the 30th, another chance missed.
So then, what do you get for your money? Quite a lot for around twelve to fifteen pounds as it happens. The set includes the single disc version of the movie as used for the 25th anniversary release, complete with Superheroes in full. The disc also has the audio commentary track from Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn as well as the Participation Prompter and Intro from Sal Piro. Menus remain the same as the previous release as well.
There is some nice artwork inside the transparent DVD case with the 36 chapters listed.
The mix is the Dolby Digital 5.1 version and the movie is presented in a 1.66:1 ratio. Missing from the previous releases is the great collectors booklet that accompanied previous UK releases of the movie. Sleeve notes are very limited as far as extras are concerned. This is the only real downside from this otherwise great value release.
Of course you aren't just getting the movie for your money, also included is the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack album.
This is a nice looking disc, made out to look like the original vinyl album that is is based on.
As well as the complete soundtrack, including the full version of superheroes the disc also contains the 1989 remix of The Time Warp as well as the backing track only remix version.
Overall a worth while addition to the collection and a great buy for those that haven't seen or heard the Rocky Horror Picture Show before. It's the kind of thing that makes a nice Christmas gift for any virgins you may know (are there any of those left?)
